Our History

What began in 1939 as an outgrowth of the Hamilton Watch Company is now a global presence and the leading specialty re-roller of almost every alloy made today. Our timeline spans over eight decades in the manufacture of high-quality strip and foil.


1930s


  • 1939:  Began as an outgrowth of Hamilton Watch Company.

1940s


  • 1942: Started supplying precision strip and foil to other companies.

1970s


  • 1972: The last "Hamilton" Watch is manufactured.

1980s


  • 1981: Hamilton Precision Metals relocates to present facility in Lancaster, PA, USA, and adds Z-Hi Mill.
  • 1983: Katy Industries acquires HPM Hamilton Precision Metals.

1990s


  • 1996: Hamilton Precision Metals becomes ISO 9002 Certified and expands product capabilities with new ZR 24 14" rolling mill. 

2000s


  • 2001: Establishes exclusive representation in Europe.
  • 2002: Management and Cedar Creek Partners acquires Hamilton Precision Metals.
  • 2003: Hamilton Precision Metals upgrades to ISO 9001:2000.
  • 2005: Hires sales organization in China.
  • 2006: Addition of ZR 32 4" rolling mill increases foil product capacity.
  • 2007: Hires sales organization in Israel.
  • 2007: Hamilton Precision Metals is acquired by AMETEK Inc.

2010s


  • 2012: Develops Titanium Grade 23 (Ti 6/4 ELI) strip in partnership with AMETEK Wallingford for implantable medical enclosures.
  • 2019: Manufactures Titanium Grade 9 strip for implantable shields in medical devices.

2020s


  • 2021: Supplies metal strain gauge foils for unmanned vending machines aimed at poverty alleviation in Asia.
  • 2023: Addition of a third rolling metal to meet rising demand for strain gauge foil for multi-dimensional, force-sensing devices.
