We supply material for hermetic shields and cases used by the largest pacemaker, drug-infusion pump, and electronic implant manufacturers around the world. Hamilton Precision Metals has more than 80 years' experience supplying this critical medical market, consistently maintaining surface cleanliness and cosmetic finish of the highest quality.
Alloys
Commercially Pure
Grade 1 Titanium is the preferred material due to its light weight, biocompatibility, weldability, and formability to be deep drawn into the desired shape. We also have the expertise to process:
Sizes
We specialize in manufacturing metal strip and foil to the tightest tolerances and thinnest gauges in the industry — thicknesses from 1.5 mm (.060”) down to 1.5 microns (0.00006”).
Advantages
Our biocompatible
titanium strip and foil materials are custom-engineered to deliver outstanding properties for medical device manufacturers including:
- Fine Grain Size - Improves drawability
- Highly Ductile - Reduces processing steps
- Surface Finish - Eliminates splitting, mitigates cosmetic issues improving yields
- Gauge Control - Repeatability in the stamp / draw process
- Corrosion resistance
- Weldability – allows for use in hermetically sealed products
The high-quality surface finish and gauge control translates to improvements in finished product quality as well as process controls during drawing, stamping, etching, or laser cutting.
Implantable Shield Applications
Medical electronic implants (for the human body) are typically made to fit inside a titanium shield or case. This shield provides a biocompatible hermetic seal between the enclosed device (electronics and associated power supply) and the environment of the human body. Applications include:
- Cardiac & Pacemaker
- Drug-infusion pump and delivery systems
- Cardiac Monitors
- Neurostimulator Implants
- Defibrillators (Cardiac Rhythm Management (CRM)
Implantable Drug-Infusion Pumps
An implantable infusion pump is a medical device used to deliver medication into a patient’s body in a controlled manner - such as insulin, antibiotics, chemotherapy drugs, and pain relievers.
We work closely with the major drug-infusion pump manufactures to develop titanium strip materials for the protective outer enclosure. This shield provides a biocompatible hermetic seal between the enclosed device and environment of the human body.
Safe External Charging of Neurostimulator Implants
We work in partnership with
AMETEK Specialty Metal Products to produce thin strip in titanium grades 5 and 23 for the production of neurostimulator cases that allows for the external charging after being implanted in the patient.
Our materials allow for the manufacturing of smaller devices that enable safe, external re-charging for a range of transformative neuromodulation and neurostimulation therapy applications.
